Whats on in St Austell

A host of summer events

St Austell Town will be hosting a 'My Town - My Heritage' programme of events over the Summer to encourage visitors into the town centre. The events have been organised by the St Austell & District Chamber of Commerce, the Market House and the Restormel Borough Council.

July 20th to August 24th (every Wednesday)

The summer's activities kick off with a series of guided tours around the town centre hosted by Charles Thurlow, a well-known, experienced local historian and industrial heritage enthusiast. The first tour takes place on Wednesday July 20 2005 and every Wednesday thereafter up to and including August 24 2005. Tours start at 11.00am from the car park at the St Austell Co-Op. Each tour/talk will last about two hours. A £2 donation per person is requested and accompanied children go FREE. All funds will be donated to charity.

Saturday 6th August - St Austell Rotary Club

On Saturday 6th August the St Austell Rotary Club will be in Aylmer Square with an example of a Rotary Club ShelterBox which provides International aid for disaster relief. The ShelterBox was the brainchild of Tom Henderson and is administered by the Helston-Lizard Rotary Club and sent worldwide through Rotary. It aims to bring shelter and beds to people who have become homeless in disasters around the world. The St Austell Rotary club has been fundraising for the victims of the Asian Tsunami disaster since the tragic events unfolded on Boxing Day 2004. The cost of a complete Shelter Box is £490 sterling and the boxes and new equipment are purchased as donations are received. All amounts are welcome and are used to purchase items toward a complete box.

Saturday 13th August - St Austell Brewery

On Saturday 13th August a vintage coach has been laid on to take visitors from Aylmer square up to the St Austell Brewery for a guided tour. The tour is priced at the discount rate of £3 (normal price £4) and includes a drink and a special offer voucher to be used at the White Hart Hotel in the town centre. The first coach will depart from Aylmer square at 11am and then at hourly intervals until 3pm. Visitors will be brought back into the town centre afterwards.

Saturday 20th August - Market House Tours

On Saturday 20th August the Market House will be holding guided tours around its Grade II listed building. Visitors will learn about the rich and varied history of one of the town's oldest buildings and the tour includes a special visit to the jail cells that are housed in the cellars!

August 26, 27 and 28th - St Austell Church

The programme of events over the Summer will culminate with a three-day Party in the Park in Truro Road Park on August 26, 27 and 28th organised by the St Austell Church.
