Creative Links Project Open Day
First Link of the Creative Links Project
The Creative Links project, in association with Groundwork Devon and Cornwall, funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund is being launched with an Open Day of activities on Saturday 27th January 2007 at Penrice Community College, St Austell. Between 1 and 4 pm local people are invited to attend an open day where there will be arts and heritage activities for all the family.
The aim of the Creative Links project is to increase public understanding and awareness of china clay heritage by reflecting heritage research in landmark sculptures for the Clay Trails.
Artists from all over Cornwall have been asked to exhibit their work at the Open Day where members of the community will be shortlisting their favourites to go through to the next stage. The panel of judges for the second event in February will consist of members of the community for each sculpture area.
The sustainable transport charity Sustrans will be at the event to promote some of their community projects and display information and pictures about other community sculpture trails that have worked well elsewhere in the country.
Other Partner organisations on hand to talk to the public will be Imerys, the China Clay History Society, Cornwall County Council, Restormel Borough Council, Restormel Arts, English Heritage and the China Clay Country Park.
People living in and around the areas of Bugle and Stenalees; St Blazey and Par; Penwithick, Carthew and Trethowel are principally invited to take part in this exciting project as they are located near to the gateway points of the Clay Trails and therefore the installation sites for the sculptures.
People from other parts of Cornwall are invited to the Open Day, as there are a variety of other ways in which to get involved.
A free bus shuttle service will be available for this event.
