St Austell's new Town Centre Manager gets geared up for Christmas

Restormel Borough Council and the South West Regional Development Agency are delighted to announce the appointment of Tasha Davis as the new Town Centre Manager.

Tasha will take over from Keith Everitt and will be based in the new 'Engine House' on Trinity Street (Number 1 - next door to 'Currys'). This new office opened on the 12th October.

Tasha is already working with Restormel Borough Council, the Chamber of Commerce and others to prepare for the Christmas festivities. The first of many events will be the Christmas lights "switch on" which will take place on Tuesday 28th November. Pirate FM's Bob McCreadie will switch on the town's lights and will host a live broadcast from the town centre. There will also be a snow machine and a Christmas procession through the town. Lostwithiel band will be marching in the parade, as will children from local schools. The procession, which is set to be bigger and longer than ever before, will end outside the Market House in time for an outdoor Carol Service with the official lights switch on taking place at 7pm.

The 'big switch on' will herald the start of Tuesday late night shopping in the town in the run up to Christmas. Each Tuesday during late night shopping there will also be charity and church stalls, bands, dance groups and choirs to add to the atmosphere of the town. To keep the youngsters busy, Santa's Grotto will be in the Market House.

As well as Tasha, a new Regeneration officer for St Austell and the surrounding area will be appointed early in the New Year. This new role will create new projects in the area and help to take them forward.

Paul Scott of the Chamber of Commerce says:" We are very pleased for Tasha. Having worked with her closely already, we have a good working relationship which we hope to continue to build on. I wish her the best of luck."

Councillor Annette Egerton, Cabinet Member responsible for Planning and Regeneration added: "The new town centre manager and other regeneration staff to be recruited over the next few months will help Restormel achieve more improvements to the town centre to help both traders and shoppers."

Rob McGuffie Regeneration Manager for the South West Regional Development Agency said 'It is great news that Tasha has been appointed. She has arrived at a very exciting time with the town's redevelopment about to commence. I have already seen how passionate and enthusiastic she is and am delighted that she will be involved in driving this project forward".

Tasha is available on (01637) 63077.
